This is the cutting edge of hair metal which got no fanfare at all. It is an excellent disc and comes highly recommended to fans of the metal that drove the sound of the 80's.

From: james tate Date: March 3, 2001 at 10:43
I agree. Awesome Album. way overlooked

From: JC Scott Date: March 11, 2001 at 16:33
I really like this group a lot. Some outstanding tracks off of this one are: Hold on to Tonight Bad Reputation Find Another Way Come Play the Game

From: WADE-LINK Date: March 14, 2001 at 10:32
VERY OVERLOOKED BAND THEY SOUND LIKE HAREM SCAREM-THIS ALBUM IS GREAT START TO END THIS IS A RARE ONE GRAB WHILE YA CAN

From: Gary Boole Date: July 22, 2001 at 19:55
As good as this one is, their latest is even better, Some Other Place, Some Other Time. This CD is a must have for any serious hard rock fan. Shame this band came out too late to have any mass popularity.

From: JOE JOE Date: August 18, 2001 at 18:45
Just look at the cover, what more do you need.

From: David Moors Date: August 21, 2001 at 19:26
I agree with JOE JOE, what more could you want?

From: wadelink Date: October 22, 2001 at 16:54
sorry it takes more than a great cover great cd thou

From: Dragonfly Date: December 13, 2001 at 12:36
Another great example of melodic metal at it's best. Right up there Warrent,Poison & Danger Danger. But not as well known. I didn't find their newest release as good except the first track.

From: koogles Date: January 1, 2002 at 13:36
I wouldn't put these guys on the same plateau as Warrant, Poison and Danger Danger, but they did have their moments. 'Find Another Way' is pure AOR heaven, but there isn't enough other material like it on the CD (with the exception of 'Come Play the Game').

From: Rick Date: March 5, 2002 at 23:12
This is by far the best CD I own, and I own a ton. This one rocks from beginning to end and keeps you coming back for more. I bought it when it came out and it still is a fixture in my CD player. If you haven't heard this yet, do it now!

From: ?? Date: April 2, 2002 at 23:43
this band is just plain f**king awesome. buy both of their discs if you have the chance.

From: Hernan Date: April 13, 2002 at 21:16
I have had this awesome CD for a decade and it will always be my favorite one. Great rock music, a must have for any rocker. All songs are awesome, particularly Bad Reputation, Play Dirty, Skin to Skin, Come Play the Game, and Find Another Way. I also like Warrant, Poison, and Danger Danger, but they are far away from being like Heaven's Egde. I highly recommend this CD, so if you have the chance buy it... I guarantee your complete satisfaction.

From: TIM Date: April 15, 2002 at 8:11
I agree with 'koogles' on this one. Find Another Way is great, but the rest is not up to par with Danger Danger, Warrant, Poison, etc.. The skill was there, just lacked something.

From: Friday 13th Date: May 23, 2002 at 5:15
Great debut album if the vain of Dokken, Ratt and other cool U.S. metal acts from the early 90's. Check it out!

From: SLAMHOUND Date: July 7, 2002 at 20:56
First HE album was awesome. Everyone forgets to mention ROUGHHOUSE when you mention HE. That's another bands from Philly that didn't get their due. What a killer band they were! That would've been an AWESOME tour, RH & HE. Think about it guys. And if it ever happens,GIRLS, BEWARE! Both these bands were the best to come out of Philly. WE ALL MISS THE GOOD OLE' DAYS!

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: July 15, 2002 at 11:09

From: Steve T Date: September 4, 2002 at 10:56
This is one of my fave hard rock albums ever and also one of the best debut's I have ever heard. Great songwriters, great production and a huge sound courtesy of Mr Kernon. Should have propelled the band into the major leagues...why it didn't is anyone's guess but Columbia shafted the guys well and truly. Shame, as they had everything to make it HUGE. Play Dirty, Skin To Skin, Find Another Way,Hold On To Tonight, Come Play The Game.....all first class heavy rock. 10/10

Great band and a great album. One of the few that could back up their studio set with their live show. Reggie Wu kicks some major butt. Lot of good bands out around that time, too many totally got screwed by the grunge era.

From: nitrodoll Date: September 5, 2002 at 9:41
this album rocks...'play dirty', 'skin to skin' and the kick ass tune 'can't catch me' makes this album a must have for fans of the genre... rock steady rock

From: MelodicBoy Date: October 5, 2002 at 0:33
This album kicks ass from beginning to end. A perfect pop metal CD, well worth tracking down. Great guitar work, big sound. They should've been huge. Unfortunately, their 2nd album is a big disappointment-only a couple good tunes on that one.

From: Kolohe Date: December 17, 2002 at 19:47
Great band who lived up to their album sound live. Loved seeing them at Hammerjacks in Baltimore, MD whenever they came to town. Reggie Wu could play with the best! Too bad nothing really ever came of them, they could have been up there with the best of them! Even though times have changed, I'd love to see them again ... their lives shows ROCKED!

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: December 21, 2002 at 19:18
A name which inplies that they're either in Hell or close to it!!! And anyone dissing this album dosen't far much better, either!!! This album has plenty of POWER and boundless ENERGY!!! A SPITFIRE guitarist and a HELLACIOUS vocalist!!! 'Hold On To Tonight' is a moving, emotional power balled with great melody and touching lyrics and 'Bad Reputation', with it's Leppard-esque overtones and choral harmmonies. 'Can't Catch Me' slows down, hesitates and then hits full throttle!!! Shweeet!!!

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 18, 2003 at 16:43
heavens edge were the business, the could rock harder than anybody else and then all of a sudden they could bring you a beautyfull aor song.without a doubt one of the best american hard rock albums ever released.its a defined power!.

From: Trick Taylor Date: February 1, 2003 at 6:33
Somebody posted that this bunch had a 'hellacious' vocalist. I could not agree more. I felt like I was in hell listening to him! Bland and boring is no way to go through life son. This disc has its moments, the drumming on 'Skin on Skin' and 'Can't Catch Me' is fun. I'm not slagging for slaggings sake. I just think I would have enjoyed a singer with more range and emotion. KOOGLES, where are you from? WUSSYAORLOVERLAND? BADMUSICVILLE? KEYBOARDSCITY? Thanks, I'm here all week.

From: tomcat Date: February 1, 2003 at 9:28
if you disagree with the above lines maybe you should check out Mark Evans previous band Network, on mp3.com. i have to say , that this debut album of heaven's egde is a kick ass rock n roll singer, and i didn't found one annoying thing about the singer . Kickass album that reminds me of the summer of 1990..'can't catch me' tomcat@dolfijn.nl

Tomcat, don't pay any attention to Trick Taylor. He wanted to be a complete METAL HEAD, so he went and got a pair of TIN EARS as a matching accessory!!! Hahaha

From: mdlmistro Date: February 3, 2003 at 19:08
Hey trick you don't like the music then why the hell are you here? Take your worthless and UNINTERESTING COMMENTS ELSEWHERE!!

From: Trick Taylor Date: February 3, 2003 at 19:47
mdlmistro- You miss the point. I love metal and hard rock music! It has been a major part of my life since I was 7 years old. I feel fortunate to have grown up while it was exploding. I also feel fortunate that I can look back at the stuff with an objective eye. Not all of it was good. I'm not always going to like what you like. You can disagree, but calling my comments 'worthless' proves idol worship, not objective music lover.

From: Trick Taylor Date: February 3, 2003 at 19:53
To continue: I would like to note that I have posted many positive reviews on this site (Steelheart, Tall Stories, Waysted, Love/Hate, etc)and have never actually rated an album (lest I be accused of fixing the rating). I also have never reviewed an album I don't own. I check in almost everyday and enjoy the banter back and fourth (Even w/ KOOGLES) It is nice to be with fellow metalheads. mdlmistro- just relax, it is just one man's opinion. It is not gospel.

From: MDLMISTRO Date: February 4, 2003 at 14:59
Trick-I will admit that I just discovered this band not to long ago, and it really got my attention. But to call this album 'bland and boring'? That just kind of ticked me off!! So no hard feelings, I agree it feels good to be with fellow metalheads!!! Please excuse my ignorant comments.

From: carlos m parro Date: February 20, 2003 at 0:10

From: vince Date: April 15, 2003 at 7:50

Gran cd de Hard con una producción sublime de neil kernon,la balada 'hold on to tonight' es una obra maestra

From: Zenari Date: May 25, 2003 at 18:42
This is SUCH A GREAT ALBUM!! 15 on a scale of 10!! Loved from the start to the end.

From: Scandinavia Date: June 15, 2003 at 10:00
Actually a pretty good album! I was totally blown away by 'Play Dirty' when I first put it on...'Skin 2 Skin' says it all! Rock'n'roll lifestyle!

From: Rycheage Date: August 2, 2003 at 15:21
Awesome hair metal that got way overlooked back in the day. 'Skin on Skin' and 'Come Play The Game' would've been smash hits on FM radio and MTV. These days are long gone. The CD is excellent anyway. I recommend you get it.

From: John Date: September 4, 2003 at 13:03
I don't know how a band can go from pretty kickass, catchy hard rock to AOR from song to song, but Heaven's Edge does a pretty good job of just that. For every 'Can't Catch Me' you get a 'Find Another Way'. Fantastic harmonies and Wu is a criminally underated guitarist. 9.5/10.

From: Great Dane Date: September 15, 2003 at 11:42
This is a good album. If you dont have it. Get it. Simply GET IT.

From: Paul Ryan Date: September 28, 2003 at 17:27
A CD worthy of all the praise it gets. Reminds me a lot of Lynch Mob. I think Mark Evans sounds like a cross between Oni Logan in his high register and Larry Saltis from Tower City. It's great to hear crunching but catchy guitar riffs like that in every song. Superb sing along choruses that grab you on the first listen and huge gang style backing vocals. The production is superb and it does make you wonder why they never broke through with such a quality album. Definitely gets a 10 out of 10.

From: Jade Date: November 2, 2003 at 18:38
Koogles, your such a moron. you take a shit on great aor/hard rock bands then this band you praise? Damn from a great Journey album that you think sucks to this that you praise you have such shit taste. This band is pretty good but other singers and better lyrics and production are far ahead of these guys for sure that's why Firehouse though a quite a bit better and very similar to these guys they made it the following year and why you think that was?

From: Border Rat Date: November 29, 2003 at 8:55
I own the second CD.I hope this CD is re released so that I can get my paws on it.

From: Alejandro Date: February 19, 2004 at 13:06

From: AOR freaky Date: February 20, 2004 at 4:54
Great, great solid hardrock release. Head and shoulders above anything Warrant and Poison ever did. Personally I don't see why they are compared to them. They are much heavier. Skin 2 Skin is a great hardrock song. Nice one !

From: Bunny Date: March 26, 2004 at 0:59
Primer disco de este quinteto...más que representativo del genero a inicios de los 90's...a mi opinion particular los teclados quitan fuerza a la idea central y en ocasiones estan de más...recomendaciones,Hold on to the night, skin to skin y Come play the game...contacto...erbunny@telesal.net...

From: MJ (Marla) Date: April 1, 2004 at 23:44
'Skin 2 Skin' is an AWESOME song!! I've been playing the heck out of Some Other Place, Some Other Time lately, so I put this one back in......I forgot how great this disc is!!! 'Up Against The Wall' comes in second after 'Skin 2 Skin' for me... 'Hold On To Tonight' is a little draggy...but beautiful none the less... LOVE the drums in 'Can't Catch Me'!!! How these guys didn't get HUGE is just beyond me....

From: Natman Date: May 13, 2004 at 0:40
I think this is a killer 80's R&R album(cd). I dug them then and I still dig listening to them. Ya gotta remember, 80's music was just about chicks, having fun, rockin and partying. Simple stuff. Just having a good time. I always said I wished we both could've toured together. That would've been an awesome time. It's a shame they can't get together for these reunion shows that are happening. Thumbs up on this one, guys.

From: AOR freaky Date: May 13, 2004 at 6:18
This is still a great record, I agree. I even rate it far above Warrant and Poison, Koogles ! Far heavier and better songs ! And more melodic too !

From: Scott Date: May 18, 2004 at 12:37
Rating it above Warrant and Poison isn't saying much IMO! These guys rock far harder than the poodle rockers mentioned in the above reviews.

From: Metal T Date: May 19, 2004 at 20:55
These guys any good ??-----Heavy ?

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 20, 2004 at 8:49
I wouldn't say they're 'heavy' per se, and although they are heavier than Poison or Warrant, the music is pretty much in the same vein. Wu's a pretty good axeman too. They're kinda like LA hair band with an East Coast attitude (IMHO).

From: Rick Date: May 20, 2004 at 20:54
Not necessarily heavy, but a must have without a doubt. Britny Fox is an ok comparison when comparing musical styles. These guys rock hard with a lot of energy in their songs. 80's rock at it's best!!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 2:06
Another hair band that came out maybe a year too late to hit it big. They had the songs to do it such as 'Skin To Skin' and 'Find Another Way'. 7/10

From: Rikky Date: June 24, 2004 at 14:25

From: Geoff Date: August 25, 2004 at 8:33
A lot of fillers, but when they're good, they're f*cking brilliant!'Play dirty' and 'Skin to skin' are two killer commercial hard rockers,'Find another way' is melodic heaven,'Hold on to tonight' is a great ballad,'Bad reputation' is another slab of perfect melodic hard rock heaven, and 'Come play the game' is one of the best melodic hard rock songs EVER! A few others are okay, a couple of filler, but the good tracks are more than enough for me! An absolute stellar sound too - Drums / guitars!!!

From: TIM (2) Date: August 25, 2004 at 9:37
Heaven's Edge had the big polished sound, they had the axemanship, and the powerful vocals, they just never quite had the songs. 'Come Play the Game' is a real highlight, as is the killer 'Find Another Way' and the ballad 'Hold on Tonight'. The rest was just decent, and the second album had even fewer highlights. This is well worth owning for the highs, but far too many lows to make it essential. 7/10.

From: KALHAS Date: October 27, 2004 at 13:20
a REAL must for everyone who supported that kind of music. A M A Z I N G sound

From: Eric Date: November 4, 2004 at 14:16
Musically this album is awesome. I do wish the vocals were a little stronger. All in all a terrific straight up rock record

From: Date: November 8, 2004 at 10:48
I still think i was unfair, A M A Z I N G is not enough. We are talking about F U C K I N G A M A Z I N G

From: Kriss Date: November 29, 2004 at 13:43

From: charvel man Date: December 1, 2004 at 2:59
This is a pretty solid disc great singer and guitarist. I like the guitar players sound. The band I can compare them to is bon jovi, but with slightly heavier guitar sound. If this disc had come out in 85 not 90 they could have been bigger. It's a shame to cause it's a good disc. Really great melodic hard rock. Wish like hell we still had a few bands around like this, or like hurricane, xyz, old dokken and old tesla. Pick it up, or at least download a few tracks and try them out they rock!

From: Swriter Date: February 14, 2005 at 18:41
a great big 80's type of rock release, great production, vocals, and guitar work, just great and catchy as anything. For the Network fans, the singer of Heaven's Edge was the bassist/vocalist in the band Network. This is a bit harder release then the Network album, but again, a great one! if u can find it!!!

From: Lennie Date: March 1, 2005 at 7:32
I agree with Tim (2) - this was a very good release but not that killer....apart from 'Come Play the Game'. This is a great hard melodic rock track and still one of my personal faves after all this time - download it if you can!

From: Endika Date: July 8, 2005 at 7:48

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: July 26, 2005 at 21:27
Come Play the Game(Gran corte), Daddy's Little Girl, Can't Catch Me

From: swriter Date: July 27, 2005 at 0:00
THIS is a good one not amazing, but the good ones r amazing!!! hahaha Game, skin, bad, play dirty and the should of been a huge hit, FING ANOTHER WAY, extremely catchy. This one goes hand in hand with the Network cd which is also half super fantastic as well, get em both

From: fiortoft Date: September 24, 2005 at 5:35
Mark Evans has a voice very similar to Aaron Randall who sang on Annihilator "SET THE WORLD ON FIRE"...does anyone feel the same???

From: z4roxx Date: September 27, 2005 at 11:54
I think a comparison between the two is right,Randal was a great touch in one of the best cd and band in metal scene as Annihilator,M.Evans is a God for me also because he went from Network who I consider among my best 5 band in melodick rock scene.Btw if you like A.Randal and Annihilator I can recommend you this singer and bands:Charles Sabin of Toxik(“think this”album),Mark Antoni of Realm or Thomas Lundin of Hexenhaus(“Awakening”album),wow!!!What a band and singers for me…..

From: fiortoft Date: September 29, 2005 at 16:05

From: z4roxx Date: October 3, 2005 at 13:11

From: fiortoft Date: October 16, 2005 at 6:47
(...and justice for all su tutti!!!)

From: aMetalhead1966 Date: December 29, 2005 at 13:23
Whoa!!! What a Shock.....These guys SHOULD have been HUGE...It really goes to show that some bands no matter how great they are(and they are)that Corporate Bullshit still controls it all...Damn this is Probably ONE of the Best Releases of Melodic Metal EVER!!! It would have been nice to see them live!!!

From: swriter Date: December 29, 2005 at 18:15
I saw them live at least 50 times, at least once a week before they were signed, and before that, the singer was in Network and they played every two weeks at a local club for five straight nights a week, for a few years!!! at the time, I was not crazy over Hedge, but in time, this is one of my fav metal releases of the 80's!!!!! Also check out Network, and Red Dawn, two bands in the HEdge family tree.

From: headbanger4life Date: January 25, 2006 at 21:35
This has got to be one of the most criminally overlooked metal/hard rock bands from the 80's/90's. I thought this one rocked from start to end and they deserved more recognition. "Play Dirty" and "Skin to Skin" are some of my favorite rockers to this day.

I was going through some old VHS videos and found a "MetalVision" compilation that I'd forgotten I even had... and "Skin To Skin" from Heavens' Edge was the lead off video on the tape. Pretty good stuff, now I want to check out the CD if I can find it...

10 out of 12 tracks from good to excellent. Hints of Poison and Def Leppard. I would put them in the Warrant realm also. A couple of very nice ballads, tracks #4 and #6. Did not care for tracks #7 And #10. #10 must have came from a live show.

Weak band with a cool cover. Songs are hookless and the singer is very weak. Reggie is the talent in band. You could replace anyone else and no one would notice. They should have replaced Mark after the first release flopped.

As a hair-metal fan, the first time I heard this album (after picking it up for $7.95 in a used CD shop), I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. No, seriously, I actually tucked my finger under my jaw to check for a pulse. "Come Play the Game" is such a perfect melodic hard rock anthem, God Himself must have had a hand in writing it. Neil Kernon's pristine production, sizzling guitars, commercial hooks galore, and huge layers of backing vocals make this one a classic must-own. They'd have to sever my esophagus with a straight razor before I'd part with my copy. (OK, slight exaggeration, but you get the point.)

This is a disc that is very easy to get into. The whole album is full of great songs such as Hold On To Tonight, Play Dirty and Come Play The Game. The singer sounds a bit like Ron Taylor from Lillian Axe. Highly recommendable.

another hair band that failed to succeed. some great memoreable songs here and also fillers. But even though I like their melodic approach and songs like hold on to tonight, find another way and play dirty really left some good vibrations in my heart.

Wow this album is having a lot of comments lately and it pushed me to undust my cd that was stored somewhere in my house ...anyway yes,it has some good songs and that makes the album appealing to a vast audience (Glam,Hard Rock even for persons who like Hard AOR somehow)..."Play Dirty","Skin To Skin","Daddy's Little Girl","Is That All You want?" & "Come Play The Game" are excellent songs but also another extra goodies are the AORish song "Find Another Way",the solid ballad "Hold On To Tonight" & the kicking a** one "Can't Catch Me" ...great vocals and good musicianship is what gives this album a dynamite sound...94/100

For fans of US polished and catchy Melodic Metal & Dokken, Danger Danger, Fifth Angel, Leatherwolf, Harem Scarem, Talisman & Jeff Scott Soto .... Truly a masterpiece of hair melodic metal and late 80's hard rock combined with AOR Easily stands in top (ten ain't enough) of may favourites cds along with Double Eclipse, Don't Tread, Danger Danger ('S), Dog Eat Dog, Asphalt Ballet, Against The Law, Firehouse, Steelheart, Harem Scarem, Up From The Ashes, Prisoners In Paradise, Empire, ... I understand that some likes AOR, some Bluesy drivin' Hard Rock, some Heavy Melodic or pure Heavy Metal, I love them all, these days I'm into Unruly Child & The Storm, next ones into mighty Running Wild & Saxon, then into Four Horsemen & Jackyl ending on Europe's jewels and why not into Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Jeff Healey, but I have to say that there are not enough words to describe this masterpiece, this is GOD's job and kicks some serious fuckin' ass !!! Dislikers must stay off HH

Philadelphia's Heaven'ss Edge took their cues more from someone like Dokken, rather than Motley Crue. They played melodic hard rock with smooth vocals, shredding but big harmonies, restrained guitars, and catchy tunes, with the emphasis on melody and technicality rather than attitude and aggression. You could file this right along with th circa-1990 releases by Firehouse, XYZ, Steelheart, Hardline, even Winger. It almost seemed like they weere going for a lynch Mob kind of feel, trying to keep some sleazy elements intact, but the polished production cancels out most of the grit. Liistening to the disc on its own merits, you wonder how Heaven's Edge didn't hit it big. But when you take in the wider context, plenty of bands doing this same style at the same time, you realize that Heaven's Edge just weren't good enough to break out from the pack.

I finally decided to add this band to my collection last week and ordered both albums having never heard a single song by them. The second album turned up first, and I was a little underwhelmed, but reading the comments from here about that basically being unreleased demos etc, I remained positive that this one would be better. I finally got my copy of the debut today, and I can agree that it is far superior. Very reminiscent of a lot of other bands who came along at the tail end of that era in that they play solid hard rock rather than the flashy "hair metal" that dominated the scene a few years before. I could throw out loads of comparisons, but really not sure what the benefit of that is as many above have already addressed that issue and I would just be repeating them. All I will say is if you like those bands mentioned, seek this one out and only buy the follow up album if you are a completionist like myself.

sensational hair metal debut for HEAVEN S EDGE back in the early 90 s with Neil Kernon polished production and useful guidance make them sound sleazy & smooth in the same time!i recall seeing the Skin To Skin video on Headbanger s Ball i was shocked and just went to the record shop and picked it up!many big songs from rockers to midtempos ,passionate vocals and exceptional guitar work ,this one became easily one of the best around in the genre!essential
