very good heavy metal music once again for SAXON ,a band that always delivered in studio and on stage!monsterous riffs,Biff s vocals always thrilling and the songs pretty good but nothing blowminding!i d prefer that they put 2 or 3 more hard rockin tunes ,but i cant complain as the quality is very high!"thunderbolt",'sniper" ,"speed merchants " & "the roadies song" are the highlights

i m a very big fan of saxon 1980 to 1992 (period) (forever free record).after they turn classic metal without melodies and the commercial approach.nevertheless when they come in lyon i run to see their concert.yesterday it was the fith time i see them.unfortunatelly they plays lot of metal songs and they open the show with thunderbolt.of course they plays some classic songs from the glory days of the eighties.unfortunatelly paul quinn the guitarist was not very inspired.his riffs was totally out of tune on "dallas 1 pm" and so "solid ball of rock" it was a slaugther.i reconize this exceptional song only with the choruse!!!!biff byford stay an exceptional show man and an exceptional singer.

Latter-day Saxon has more in common with Accept than the band's own early albums. You can really hear it in the riffs, which have that

... snarly quality that in my mind is synonymous with Accept. A song like "Sniper" could have come off any of the Mark Tornillo-led albums. It's great to hear a band slamming this hard so late into their career, but ... I miss that rock 'n' roll swing and swagger that albums like Wheels Of Steel and Strong Arm Of The Law still had underneath their metalness. Thunderbolt and Battering Ram are just so locked-down and precise. I just don't get the same exhilarating sense of abandon that I hear in a song like "Machine Gun" "To Hell And Back Again." And that's a little disappointing to me. Even the more light-hearted moments, like the Motorhead tribute "They Played Rock 'n' Roll," and "Roadies' Song," or "Three Sheets To The Wind" off Battering Ram, aren't quite the wild party anthems they seem intended to be. Still, it's very hard to knock Saxon too much. This is a good album, especially if you love stuff like Accept or Primal Fear, maybe some HammerFall. I just prefer Saxon's trilogy of t

I just prefer Saxon's trilogy of terror from '80-'81.

Great review Doghouse but for me (controversially) I love Saxon's hard rock period 1984-1991 the best...

Good point Charpenay, I had forgotten that album. In fact I just realised I didn't have it in my collection... I better rectify that.
