Everybody knows what a big fan I am of Bombay Black, particularly their previous two releases, Bullets And Booze and Walk of Shame. And then they went dark for almost a decade. Now they return, with no credited drummer (programmed drums? session player?) and another batch of their snarky updated hair-metal. Right off, the intro track "The Trailer" makes me laugh—very clever way to start the disc, positioning it as the soundtrack to a trashy, fictitious movie about "a rock 'n' roll band on the road, three sisters on the run, on a highway to oblivion." ("Ah warned 'em not to git on 'at bus! Didn't Ah warned 'em?" Then it's down to business with "Just Another Band From L.A.," the first highlight of the album. Other favorites include "All You Need Is A Heartbeat," "Sick Of Myself" and "Best Nights Of Our Lives." As always, the songs are well-written and well-played, with Justin Velte's solos standing out in particular.

A few songs, like "(I Love It When Y) Call Me Names" and "No Sex Bbled Breakfast" seem to veer a little closer to Steel Panther territory than their more knowing, understated humor, but are still good fun. Is good as Bullets And Booze? Well ... no. But it's plenty good, and good to have the band releasing music again.
