This is one of the absolute best AOR albums ever...now we're talking classic AOR!!!Fabulous keyboards, great singing, every track is a masterpiece! The tracks 'Thrill of It All','Smoke from a Gun','Dearborn Station' and 'Deep in the Heart of the Night' are all perfect POMP of highest order. The two ballads 'Stacy' and 'Stormy Love' are also very impressive.Stylewise they remind of 'Giuffria' but with less guitars. Conclusion, your'e collection is not complete without this GEM!

From: AOR freaky Date: May 17, 2004 at 4:44

A must for all fans of AOR. Never released on CD. CD's you seen on eBay are bootlegs.

From: ROB GARCIA Date: May 18, 2004 at 11:11

From: Date: May 26, 2004 at 23:17
no distortion, bored songs, so bad

From: AOR freaky Date: May 27, 2004 at 4:19
Mister unnamed, you place two times the same message ! How inspiring. Bloody hell : if we talk about CLASSICS with a big C, well, this is a CLASSIC with a big C ! I suppose you don't like class AOR or pomp, otherwise you wouldn't write such nonsense ! But then, what are you doing on this site ? !

From: Rycheage Date: May 29, 2004 at 15:34
One of the definitive pomp classics is this one and only album by the Los Angeles based band Fortune. Very much in the same mould as Giuffria or early House Of Lords, without the over the top guitar heroics. A band that was able to create a textured sound with lots of intricate keyboard work meshing nicely with layered guitar.

From: rocketron Date: June 9, 2004 at 12:14
Someone has been playing with the ratings here - this is a definite top 10 album of all time.

From: AOR freaky Date: June 10, 2004 at 8:07
Indeed, ALL-Time CLASSIC ! Say what you wanna say ! This IS big class ! Comments, dear AOR frekkie ?

Finally a long overdue official cd release - sounds excellent with the new remastering job aswell. Another bonus is the new studio track which is excellent. A must have for the 80's AOR/Pomp freaks out there.

From: rocketron Date: October 18, 2004 at 9:53
Quite agree Jez - re-issue of the year so far - but then there is RPM in November !!

From: Eric (France) Date: October 21, 2004 at 8:03
My Best Aor album all the time with Silent Scream (Shooting Star) I disagree about the new remastering, the sound is not so great than i expected. Anyway, now everybody can find this masterpiece with 3 bonus tracks ) A must

This is what I call a pure AOR/pomp classic ! One of the best EVER released ! ANd I even like the sound of the elpee more than the more clinical CD sound !

From: Wotty Date: January 19, 2005 at 8:01
'Stacy'..Now there's a ballad !!! Excellent...

From: z4roxx Date: January 20, 2005 at 23:38
Indeed a must have for any aor fans,a piece of aor history but...I find it a little boaring, good hooks/melodies,fine typical 80's keyboards sounds but not awesome.BTW I give it 8.5/10

From: AOR freaky Date: January 21, 2005 at 11:52
Not awesome ? ! This is one of the best AOR/pomp records in history and it's not awesome ! ? Boring ? ! Yeah ?????????? !

From: z4roxx Date: January 21, 2005 at 18:58
Hey,I sayd little boring in some part of some song,it's a great cd indeed, but IMO not awesome as for example Airrace. But that's my very personal point of view...

From: Swriter Date: February 9, 2005 at 21:22
wowowowowowow, how did I not ever hear this one, without a doubt, one of thee best 80's releases and all around class act. Harlan Cage and 101 South as well!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: February 10, 2005 at 3:05
Once again, my compliments, Swriter ! They don't make 'em like this one these days ! ALL-TIME CLASSIC, one of the very best EVER ! And I see you like Shooting Star too, another great, but so underrated act !

From: Swriter Date: February 10, 2005 at 16:40
agreed Aor!!!!! we must put out the word on all of Roger's bands; Harlan Cage and 101 South, one of the greats!!!! we have good taste huh????? hahahahaha

From: T-Bone Date: February 12, 2005 at 12:38
Great all around AOR album. Reminds me of Journey in many areas. It's probably why I like it so much!

BEST AOR ALBUM OF ALL TIME

From: Nick C Date: March 5, 2005 at 3:54
After a few years of trying to get this and not willing to buy the inflated CD prices I bought the rerelease. I think it's okay but IMHO not the awesome AOR masterpiece I was expecting (uh-oh here come the cat calls)..maybe I built my expectations up too much? Dearborn Station is cool and 98 in the Shade plus new studio track on the rerelease is pretty nifty and Thrill of it All. I like the CD but I dunno .... it falls well short of a classic to me. Worth having though!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Jez Date: March 5, 2005 at 9:36
Nick -I know what you mean. I like this alot and for years had a vinyl copy, so was really excited by it's re-issue. But,put this up against other 'classix' of the time & it does fall short,I think due to the sameness of some of the material - (my same critic of the Harlan Cage stuff). That being said, it does contain some excellent tracks, and the new remastering job sounds great. The new studio track i like aswell. Definately one to add to the collection, but a classic is overdoing it a little.

From: AOR freaky Date: March 6, 2005 at 3:56
Well, guys : if this AIN'T a CLASSIC, what album is a classic ! This is the VERY BEST AOR/POMP STUFF POSSIBLE ! GENIAL !!!!!!!!!!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Jez Date: March 6, 2005 at 8:47
From the same year 1985 we have Michael Bolton - Everybodys Crazy, Aldo Nova - Twitch, Honeymoon Suite - Big Prize, Saga - Behaviour, Coney Hatch - Friction, Orphan - Salute, Prophet - S/T, Heart - Heart '85, Streets - Crimes In Mind, Magnum - On A Storytellers Night and that's just for starters. Not saying that Fortune isn't good, just not the best AOR/ Melodic album ever made compared with many others (add to that list Spys,Giuffria,Wrabit, Arcangel,FM,Touch, Strangeways, Frozen Ghost, etc

From: AOR freaky Date: March 6, 2005 at 10:59
Dear Jez : the albums you name are all great except Michael's Bolton 'Everybody's Crazy', Frozen Ghost and Wrabit who are IMO very, very poor ! The rest is great, but can't beat Fortune ! From all the albums you name, not one is IMO better. Most close are Streets, Heart, Strangeways, Arcangel and Touch. The rest is beaten by miles. This means : tastes differ and opinions differ, although we rather like the same music. Dearborn Station, 98°In The Shade, Stacy and Thrill Of It All are SUPERB !!!!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Jez Date: March 6, 2005 at 12:31
'Everybody's Crazy' very very poor!!!!!!Oh my dear god, i have now heard it all!!!!

From: z4roxx Date: March 6, 2005 at 12:55
I am an aor fan even if it's not my favourite kind of music. That's incredible how this cd like to everybody,I consider it very good aor but nothin'awesome IMO.Production is not so good and some tracks contains weak parts.I think there were 100 bands who played the same music better than Fortune.BTW cd is ok.

From: Ardian Date: March 6, 2005 at 19:22
offical CD reissue done by the guys themshelves, unfortunately they don't own the original master... it's obviously from vinyl source, judging by the sound, which is a shame as we are dealing with a classic here... still great if you don't have the LP, and oh, there are the bonus tracks, another reason to get this asap!

From: Erik Date: March 7, 2005 at 1:40
As usual you are spot on zvroxx. Its a good release. No doubt. Very enjoyable indeed but its been done better. A little overhyped IMO.

From: AOR freaky Date: March 7, 2005 at 2:33
To Jez, z4roxx and Erik : give me the names of the bands which did it better ? Practically none ! And hé Jez : no, Everbody's Crazy does nothing at all to me ! Indeed, 3/10, spoken of an overhyped record ! All the songs are the same and are plain BORING ! Matter of taste, I presume !!!

From: Rockhead Date: March 7, 2005 at 7:02
'Everybody's Crazy' is regarded as a classic by many more relevant people than Freaky!! It is a true classic and 'Cant Turn It Off' is better than any track on this CD. Jez-don't let Freaky get to ya-he deliberately picks classics and slates them with little or no logical reasoning. Take a look at the posts only about 20 CD's on this site get more than a cursory it's ok but not as good as... Yawn heard it all before. This is a great CD but NOT a classic

From: Geoff Date: March 7, 2005 at 7:23
Just to put my nose in it... I don't own this Fortune disc and as I'm not a fan of the debut Harlan Cage disc due to how lite it is, and the same-ness of song-writing I am not interested in this, to be honest, but I must also admit that even I didn't mind that Michael Bolton disc. Still way too keyboard orientated and fluffy for me, but if you like Drive She Said you can surely not dismiss the Bolton CD, as it sounds very much like that, IMO. Some cool AOR tracks on it for sure

From: z4roxx Date: March 7, 2005 at 9:33
Hey Freaky,my rate for this one is not 3/10 but 8/10,Well,I can take some releases which are close to Fortune style:White Sister/s.t. is better,Airrace/shaft of light is 10 times better,Steel Breeze/heart on the line is better(IMO),Alias/s.t.is better ect....It's my personal point of view.I repeatroduction here is not good!

From: z4roxx Date: March 7, 2005 at 9:35
Oh my God!I hate these fuckin'emoticons!!!!!!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: March 7, 2005 at 12:08
I can assure, Rockhead that this CD is considered as A TRUE CLASSIC ! You don't have to learn me anything about AOR, my friend ! All sites, all magazines have the same point of view ! But you have the right to think otherwise ! Geoff, nice words from you ! It's your opinion and I like it you're honest ! But facts are facts ! O.K. : also 'Everybody's Crazy' is rated by many as classic. I have no problem with that. But it doesn't move me ! And z4roxx : I like the stuff you mention, but it's

From: AOR freaky Date: March 7, 2005 at 12:14
not in the same league as this MASTERPIECE ! Just MY opinion, mate ! Strange, while we like most of the same stuff, there are still big differences between us ! But that's what makes it interesting ! I'm a keyboard freak, Geoff not ! And Rockhead, the song 'Can't Turn It Off', may pleasure you, but he's inferior to let's say 'Thrill Of It All or 98 In The Shade !!!! There's even not any comparison possible ! It blows away mr. Bolton ! But hey, I'm not relevant ! Rockhead, I know you, man !

From: TIM (2) Date: March 7, 2005 at 14:58
Geoff, you might like this even if you dont like Harlan Cage. I find them & 101 South a little samey in terms of songwriting too, but this is a little more like Giuffria or early Survivor in parts and I much prefer this. IMO this is not the classic of say a 'Vital Signs' and is probably worth 8.5/10.

From: Swriter Date: March 7, 2005 at 16:30
just to add my 3 cents again on this one, in 85 there was not an overload of aor oriented rock in the States, this one was a breathe of fresh air, u have to like some pomp to really dig this one, this has it all, aor.pomp, not real heavy, just right. For those who are not into HCAge, u must listen to HCage cds Forbidden and Double, those r the best!!! Not sure about the sound quality issue cause it's been a while since I pulled out the vinyl but this sounds fine to me!!!

From: Ardian Date: March 7, 2005 at 18:11
I'm afraid I've to agree with AOR Freaky regarding 'Everybody's Crazy' (funny he doesn't like it cos his 'hero' Mark Mangold was involved heavily here) It ain't bad but apart from the magnificent Randy Goodrum co-written 'Desperate Heart', that record sound very dated and repetitive now (and I used to dig the album, mind you) Get Bolton's 'The Hunger' instead, it's much better (although lighter). BUT, I personally think this Fortune record is way better than both of them

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: April 3, 2005 at 3:05
Big fuzz on this!! I'm not surprised, it is a true Classic. Although, not to create another trouble but I think that our dear Mr Greene does not stands up as it should, counting all elements involved(musicians, songwriting an production to mention some), anyway this is been too picky I guess.

From: FROM GREECE... Date: April 13, 2005 at 7:20
IS LARRY GREENE THE SAME PERSON FROM OVER THE TOP SOUNDTRACK (S.STALLONE) WITH THE SONGS TAKE IT HIGHER AND MIND OVER MATTER? THANKS!

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 1, 2005 at 14:50
This CD is BORING!!! it's not a classic, not one of the songs stays with me, way to cheeeeeeeesy. I like AOR like Blue Tears, and heartlands first album but not this, im not into cheesy sounding songs.

From: Swriter Date: May 2, 2005 at 18:26
wowowow, BTime, this one is really that bad for you????? Agree it may be dated, but not to me, and a classic among the 80's releses. Try Harlan Cage as well as 101 South, they r also fantastic!!!

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 3, 2005 at 16:40
Ye it just doesn't do anything for me, like I said it's cheesy something out of say No Retreat No Surrender or blood Sport you know it's just sounds eighties. You couldn't play it with your girl in the car she would prob shot ya. Its a good album and I like some of the songs but just not the way people are going on about it. Im a Hard Rocker myself though I love AOR, but I like songs that grab me and pull me in you know like FireHouse, Bangalor Choir, stuff like that...Later

From: swriter Date: August 9, 2005 at 19:20
wow, saw this on ebay for 50!!!!! I am glad I got my re-issue in the spring!!!!! this sold out already??? This is a classic, man, what an album, great vocals, keys are fab!!!!! An 80's sounding release but for me, a great one, and from the 80's, definately in my top 5!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: August 10, 2005 at 3:44
This is an ALL TIME CLASSIC and blows the likes of Firehouse (although a great act)and certainly Bangalor Choir (so average !)away, every minute of the day. This is simply AOR HEAVEN ! It's all about the songs, dear BIG-TIME. On this disc, you hear SUPERB songs ! Fantastic release and one of the all time bests !!!

Hi Paul and Welcome. I think you will find most of us on here a little more open minded about our music. Alot of us here love AOR/Melodic rock and have done for a long long time and own all the releases/Bands that have been mentioned, but we also like a few other things aswell, but seem to get slagged off for being 'non believers' by a certain person who seems to think he rules the place around here.Come over to the message board - we have a good laugh and are a good bunch.

From: PAUL Date: August 25, 2005 at 13:20
HELLO JEZ AND SORRY IF I DID SOMETHING BAD.WHAT HAPPENED?I'VE SENT ONLY 3-5 MESSAGES,IS THIS PROBLEM?I DIDN'T WANT TO AFFECT SOMEONE.I RESPECT ANYONE'S TASTE AND OPINION.I'M TRYING ONLY TO GIVE MY OPINION,JUST LIKE YOU.SORRY AGAIN.

From: AOR freaky Date: August 25, 2005 at 13:26
Hi PAUL : you don't have to excuse yourself, my friend, certainly not to a guy called Jez !!! If Jez tells you he loves AOR, don't believe him, please. He only loves alternative stuff. His good right and we have to respect that ! But he shouldn't tell otherwise. The fact is that a lot of earlier lovers of AOR and melodic rock, burn down what they once praised and loved (best example is Dave Reynolds, the man has the guts to call himself an AOR fan, while he hates it(see reviews).Same with Jez

Paul - No problems at all. Just saying that most of us here like other things besides AOR/MR (no crime) but get slagged off for doing so. Like Freaky, most/alot of us here have been into this music for a long time and still listen and love it as much as back then. All the albums I grew up with in the AOR field I still love to this day, and get the majority of playing time with me. All I am saying is Freaky isn't the only person around here!!!Read the comments sections and you decide.

From: PAUL Date: September 15, 2005 at 15:06
RED DAWN:The best from the bands you mentioned, essential.HONEYMOON SUITE&NIGHT RANGER:Popular bands, classic songs, great musicians.Don't need to continue.I don't know if BREATHLESS,HYTS and JONAH KOSLEN are good, but i can't write the words HOUSE OF SHAKIRA,DARE and SHERIFF in FORTUNE's page.I can't understand why you mentioned these bands and not the TRUE CLASSIX.Here's my list with my fav AOR acts:STRANGEWAYS,KING KOBRA,MARK/MARCIE FREE,STYX,FOREIGNER,BLVD,VAN STEPHENSON,ROBERT TEPPER

PAUL, mate, are you my alter-ego ? ! HA ! HA ! The bands you name are top of the top if it comes to CLASS AOR/melodic rock. And yes, House Of Shakira, Sheriff and Dare are only third-rate in comparison with the other GIANTS you name !! I can't agree more !

This is a really great melodic album. It's been a pity that they recorded only one album.

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 17, 2006 at 21:01
AOR freaky, Firehouse did better songs and had more albums so who is better, plus Firehouse are still played in rock clubs. Fortune (who are they)...nuff said about that. Bangalore Choir are you totally def or what David Reece has an amazing voice, as compared to Larry Greene YAWWWWNN (sleepy time) and the guitars are pure stadium, get out your lighters and stuff...

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 17, 2006 at 21:15
This type of music just puts me to sleep, I learn't some of the songs (play Keys) and played them to some of my friends in a music store. And I actually got some stranger who said 'thats just 80s cheesy'... and I agree. There is AOR and there is boring, this falls into the latter, but I do love bands like Boulevard (candian), Michael Bolton, Alien. Just cant understand what people like about this band so much...Keep Rockin All!!!

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 17, 2006 at 21:23
Oops forgot about Starship, It's not enough one of the best AOR tunes ever..

If you may give me something of your time now..: I have the reissued version from Gypsy Rock Records 2004. The sound quality here is sometimes not so good (especially if it comes to high-ends). Sometimes their are cracks on it too (2-3 through the whole album), as if it's taken straight from the vinyl. Is that 'normal' with this version or have I got a bootleg or anything liker that instead??

I´ve already taken this album and listen it. We are in front of one of the best AOR albums ever released!! Great choruses and melodies, big keys but the objection is that some guitar works are slightly missing. But I think that the rest compensates this lacking. I give to it 9,5/10.

From: mecki Date: August 13, 2006 at 11:39
One of the best AOR-releases ever....This timeless classic comes with everthing this music has to have....Great melodies, a solid voice and for all this killer is good for the next 20 years....CHAMPIONS OF AOR

The reissue of this album is with bonus tracks.I have it in vynil so kinda worthy though.'Thrill of it all'and 'Stacy' timeless.100 out of 100.

From: lalorock Date: January 20, 2007 at 15:11

From: TONI MALLORCA Date: July 26, 2007 at 3:53

From: juan carlos Date: October 4, 2007 at 21:37

From: hernanHRM/AOR Date: October 31, 2007 at 18:41

this is very gooooooood aor album!

From: newscandi Date: August 23, 2011 at 13:19
I really hate these guys like AOR freaky (right, it's not only him but mostly him) who think they have the premium idea of what's the right and only taste here. They just suck with their arrogance and intolerance. You suck AOR freaky. Most probably you are a poor, poor boy with nothing to do but messing aroun trying to polish your shaken self-confidence. There is -of course- no stright and narrow-minded definition of what is AOR. And I'm quite sure you didn't study music history, so you cannot even. By the way, music is something who comes and get from and to the heart, and no thing of pure logic.

From: Kralli Date: March 15, 2012 at 11:58

O melhor álbum de AOR de todos os tempos.

From: 123charpenay Date: September 2, 2014 at 13:31
impossible to guess that this band is american.they deliver an incredible a o r.a real classic,a masterpiece of a o r.yes the production could be better, not always clear when the sound is high pitched.but it s not a problem cause this record is magic.this album is a collection of immortal hits.all are top class a o r but my fav is '98°in the shade.'an extraordinary song.the reissue is essential cause we have three bonus tracks.a new song in studio (excellent) and two new songs live (perfect sound and fabulous songs!!!!).all serious a o r fans have this jewel in their collection.

From: 123charpenay Date: April 24, 2015 at 10:27
'98 in the shade'is one of the best a o r song ever.

From: Monsieur Renard Date: June 21, 2016 at 5:05
Almost perfect. The songs/compositions, vocals, keyboardlines and guitarsolos are outstanding. The vocalhooks remind me of Abba sometimes, and that's a compliment. Maybe there's too much reverb sometimes, but apart from that, it's one of my favourite AOR/Melorock albums.

From: 123charpenay Date: May 3, 2019 at 10:55
yes too much reverb i ve the feeling that the singer sing in a jar.the sound is bad,the production is muddy but with the first harem scarem, the first dare one of the best a o r record of the hisrory.

From: jfox66 Date: June 29, 2021 at 1:53
I thought this was about Fortune but, all I'm seeing is a fight over which band is better. It's all a matter of opinion and no one's opinion is more right than anyone else's. If you like it, you like it, if you don't you don't, all a matter of personal preference. Simple as that. Now this disc... I don't love it, I don't hate it, it's got some great tracks and some moments where it's just OK. Not quite a masterpiece but, by no means garbage. Just my two cents, I've seen a lot of BIG AOR names being thrown around but, you're all missing one. Why no love for Detroit's own, Adrenalin? Road Of The Gypsy is an absolute killer! That's just my opinion and you may not agree but, it doesn't change the fact that I love that disc as much as some love this one. It's all a matter of OPINION!

I had the FORTUNE to see them live only 5 days ago in Colombia. Indelible memory. Perfection.

Gotta say, back in the mid to late 90s, and this was considered a small rarity on vinyl, I managed to secure a copy. Huraaah! Not really, I wasnt that impressed and for the last few decades I have tried it on and off cos it had "something". It wasnt till I started listening to 101 South albums I gave this another crack. Voila! Im in. Great songs ("Home Free" is a phenomenal bonus track) keys guitars vocals etc. And bound together by a melancholic nostalgia and wistful longing...
